Pharmacoepidimiology

Hellenic Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ELEFEP)

The Hellenic Society of Pharmacoepidemiology (ELEFEP) was officially founded recently and is the first organization in Greece dedicated exclusively to the advancement of pharmacoepidemiology — the scientific field that examines how medicines are used in real-world settings, their actual effectiveness, and the adverse events that occur in the population.
The President of ELEFEP is Professor Theoklis Zaoutis, who also serves as President of CLEO, further strengthening the strategic alignment between the two organizations in promoting patient safety and improving the quality of healthcare
Educational and Research Activity

ELEFEP has a strong educational focus, participating in international academic initiatives such as the Episummer School of Columbia University, offering thematic courses in epidemiology, health policy, pharmacoepidemiology, and the modern use of real-world evidence.

In parallel, ELEFEP develops research projects, workshops, and initiatives that foster knowledge and practical application of pharmacoepidemiology in Greece.
Collaboration with CLEO
The collaboration between ELEFEP and CLEO is substantial and strategic.
The two organizations share a common vision for advancing patient safety and are aligned through shared scientific methodologies. Through this partnership:
   • educational and research programs are strengthened,
   • joint initiatives are developed using clinical data and real-world evidence,
   • evidence-based decision-making in pharmaceutical and health policy is promoted.
The ELEFEP–CLEO partnership reinforces Greece’s scientific ecosystem and creates a collaborative framework that supports both healthcare professionals and patients.
